UNS Scholarship Indonesia 2027: Fully Funded Bachelor, Master & PhD at Sebelas Maret University

The UNS Scholarship at Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) in Surakarta (Solo), Central Java, Indonesia, is now accepting applications for the August 2027 intake. This scholarship is open to international students from all countries for Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral degree programmes.

About Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS)

UNS is a public university established on 11 March 1976 in Surakarta (Solo), Central Java, Indonesia. It is one of Indonesia's leading universities, ranked 1201–1500 in the THE World University Rankings and recognised as a Legal Entity State University (PTN-BH) by the Indonesian government. The university comprises 11 faculties, a postgraduate school, and a vocational school, offering hundreds of study programmes across the sciences, social sciences, humanities, engineering, and medicine.

Scholarship Types and Coverage

The UNS Scholarship offers two tiers of funding:

1. Full Scholarship

  • Full tuition and institutional fee waiver
  • Monthly living allowance:
    • Bachelor's: IDR 1,500,000 (~$94/month)
    • Master's: IDR 1,750,000 (~$110/month)
    • Doctoral: IDR 2,250,000 (~$141/month)
  • Free Indonesian language course (February–July before the academic year starts)
  • Health insurance
  • Settlement allowance (one-time)

2. Partial Scholarship

  • Full tuition and institutional fee waiver
  • Free Indonesian language course
  • Health insurance

Note: Airfare tickets and student visa/stay permit costs are to be borne by the student. Dormitory accommodation is subject to availability.

Scholarship Duration

  • Bachelor's: 8 semesters (4 years)
  • Master's: 4 semesters (2 years)
  • Doctoral: 6 semesters (3 years)

UNS offers programmes across 11 faculties and a postgraduate school. Scholarships are open for all study programmes, though quotas for the Faculty of Medicine and Medical Sciences are limited.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the UNS Scholarship, you must:

  • Be a non-Indonesian citizen
  • Meet the age requirement:
    • Bachelor's: under 24 years old
    • Master's: under 35 years old (typical, confirm for your programme)
    • Doctoral: under 40 years old (typical, confirm for your programme)
  • Hold the required previous degree:
    • Bachelor's: high school diploma or equivalent
    • Master's: Bachelor's degree
    • Doctoral: Master's degree
  • Demonstrate English proficiency: TOEFL score of at least 450 (Science programmes) or 500 (Social Sciences), or equivalent IELTS score
  • Be willing to attend an online interview and computer-based test
  • Have no refugee status and no criminal record
  • Provide a health certificate
  • For Doctoral applicants: submit a preliminary research proposal

Required Documents

  1. Letter of Offer from UNS (download from the admission portal)
  2. Valid passport (scan of bio-data page)
  3. Graduation certificate and academic transcripts (certified copies, translated to English)
  4. Recent passport-sized photograph
  5. Health certificate from a licensed physician
  6. Curriculum vitae (CV) in academic format
  7. Financial statement showing ability to cover non-scholarship expenses
  8. Personal statement or motivation letter
  9. English language proficiency certificate (TOEFL, IELTS, or equivalent)
  10. Indonesian language proficiency certificate (preferred, not required)
  11. Two recommendation letters from academic referees
  12. Cover letter addressed to the Indonesian Embassy requesting a recommendation letter
  13. Research proposal (for Doctoral applicants only, typically 3–5 pages)

Step-by-Step Application Process

Step 1: Download the Letter of Offer

Visit http://uns.id/OfferLetterAug2027 and download the official Letter of Offer. This document is required when requesting a recommendation from the Indonesian Embassy.

Step 2: Explore Study Programmes

Browse available programmes at http://uns.id/listofcourses to find the programme that matches your academic background and interests.

Step 3: Obtain an Embassy Recommendation Letter

Visit or contact the Indonesian Embassy or Consulate General in your home country. Present the following documents:

  • Letter of Offer from UNS
  • Passport
  • Graduation certificate and academic transcripts
  • Cover letter requesting the recommendation

Step 4: Register on the UNS International Admission Portal

Create an account at https://spmb.uns.ac.id/international/default/login. Fill in your personal details and upload all required documents in the designated sections.

Step 5: Print the Registration Card

After submitting your documents, print the registration card as confirmation.

Step 6: Selection Process

The university conducts a multi-stage selection:

  1. Administrative screening (1–7 October 2026) — document verification
  2. Computer-based test (21–23 October 2026) — general academic aptitude
  3. Interview (14–15 October 2026 for initial, final by department)

Step 7: Receive Results

Successful candidates will be notified by email on 12 November 2026 and will receive a Letter of Acceptance.

Step 8: Confirm and Apply for Visa

Send your confirmation to study at UNS. The university will then apply for your study permit and student visa. You should arrive in Indonesia after receiving official notification.

Living in Solo (Surakarta)

Solo is one of Indonesia's most affordable student cities. The estimated monthly living cost is approximately IDR 2,000,000 (~$125), which comfortably covers accommodation, meals, and local transportation.

Accommodation

  • UNS Dormitory: Located at Jalan Kartika III, Ngoresan, Jebres — affordable on-campus housing for diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate students
  • Kost (boarding house): External bathroom from IDR 300,000–500,000/month; internal bathroom from IDR 600,000–1,000,000/month
  • Popular student areas: Jalan Surya, Gang Kabut, Ngoresan, Gulon — all within walking distance or a short ride from campus

Food

Meals at local eateries cost IDR 5,000–15,000 ($0.30–$1.00). Solo is a famous culinary destination in Java, known for Soto, Nasi Pecel, Nasi Uduk, and various traditional Javanese dishes.

Transportation

  • Batik Solo Trans (BST) bus: IDR 3,700/ride general, IDR 2,000 for students
  • Ojek (motorcycle taxi via Gojek): ~IDR 4,000/km
  • Campus shuttle bus: voluntary contribution (IDR 1,000–2,000)
  • Most student areas are walkable to campus

Culture and Lifestyle

Solo is a cultural heartland of Java, home to the Surakarta Kraton (palace), batik markets, and traditional performing arts. The city offers a safe, welcoming environment with a low cost of living, making it an ideal destination for international students.

Tips for a Successful Application

Tip: The embassy recommendation letter is the most time-consuming step — contact the Indonesian Embassy at least a month before the deadline.
